The C-Curve Problem

What is the C-Curve Problem?

The spine is a series of curves: the cervical curve, the thoracic curve, and the lumbar curve.  When properly aligned, you are in the S-Curve posture.  In balance, this posture creates a straight line that is neutral in gravity.  Unfortunately, modern seats are formed as if  your natural posture is a C-Curve.  So every time you lean back in your seat, you are forced into an unnatural C-curve whether you intend it or not.

The C-Curve Problem

The C-Curve Problem (shown here with a standing model).

Because of this, the C-Curve posture is by far one of the most common postural distortions.  Characterized by forward head posture, collapsed ribcage, flattened lumbar spine, protruding scapula, chin jutting forward, protruding spinous processes, anterior tilt to the pelvis, the C-Curve posture invariably leads to pain – a lot of ever-increasing pain.

The C-Curve posture is also linked to a myriad of problems like migraines, TMJD, neck pain, rotator cuff strain, cervical pain, thoracic pain, lumbar pain, hip pain, sciatica, knee pain, leg pain, neuropathies through all extremities, decreased cervical range of motion and decreased shoulder range of motion.  Even shortness of breath from the inability to fully expand the lungs because the ribcage is collapsed and abdomen is protruding can occur, not to mention the exhaustion you feel from constantly fighting gravity.  We could keep going, as the list can get very long, but we are sure you get the picture.

Sitting in a forced C-Curve position is a severe, inadequately addressed issue, especially when sitting in cars, office chairs and airplanes.

Since seats exacerbate and contribute to postural distortion, and at times are even the cause of the postural distortion, you can struggle in this posture for years.  You can find yourself frustrated, upset, in pain, and potentially dealing with some of the issues we mentioned above.  Some have tried everything on the market, filling their closets with gadgets and complicated support systems that promise relief.  Unfortunately, none of them help.  We’ve even known people who have purchased new cars – top of the line ones that they love – but after driving for a while, their pain returns.  The problem remains unsolved.

The SeatGenie® solves this problem.

Back support cushions are already a popular “remedy” for back pain familiar to health care practitioners and lay people alike, right?  And one of the reasons they are so popular is because of the non-neutral alignment people sink into in their daily lives.  This non-neutral alignment is worsened when you are sitting, especially in a car, office chair or an airplane seat, so people naturally seek out a device to sit more comfortably.

However, many of these other devices and cushions focus on the cervical and lumbar regions instead of the thoracic.  If they do happen to include the thoracic region, they consistently have two problems:

  • They are too thick
  • They push the spine out of alignment with the lumbar and/or cervical portions of the back pad

This means they have too much correction and are placed in the wrong position – a posture that continues to exacerbate the problem.  They actually provide support for the postural distortion people collapse into instead of changing your posture.  So, while those back cushions may provide some relief for a time, they are not correcting the underlying issue.  They are only holding you up.  And, if you always have something holding you up, you lose functional strength.  Who wants to lose functional strength?

A properly aligned spine can support itself, so the SeatGenie® corrects the problem with seats, allowing your spine to do just that!

Researchers who have previously attempted to resolve this seat problem appear to think that the device needs to be large, fancy, thick, hard, structured, multifaceted and/or have multiple parts.  But this is just not the case!  Our simple SeatGenie®, with its support at just the right portion of the thoracic region, corrects the entire spine and fills that gap in the seat which causes your body to form the C-Curve Posture instead of maintaining the neutral S-Curve Posture.  Best of all, our SeatGenies® are small, light and non-intrusive, but the results are vast in size and scope.

With the SeatGenie®, neutral sitting is found easily and effortlessly.
